A nosy neighbour may not be a terrible thing after all and could be the secret weapon to stopping brazen thieves from breaking into your home.

Due to a recent spate in violent home invasions across Brisbane, Crime Stoppers Queensland is urging the community to get to know their neighbours, to keep eyes peeled and report any criminal or suspicious behaviour in your suburb.

Crime Stoppers Queensland CEO Carmen Jenkinson said neighbourhood safety was a team effort and by working together, residents can be a strong resource in crime prevention.

“Loving thy neighbour goes far beyond asking for a cup of sugar. Familiarising yourself with your neighbours can be a solution where everyone benefits,” she said.

“The concerning number of home invasions occurring while people are home, indicates that criminals have become more brazen. Neighbours can dramatically decrease prowling, loitering and burglary by being observant and reporting suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers.

“Remaining vigilant to the threats of home burglaries will hold you in good stead and reporting any suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers will help to keep your community safer,” she said.

After more than 30 years of making our state safer, there is no doubt that Crime Stoppers Queensland really works, and we are incredibly grateful to the true heroes in our community that get in touch with us every day.
