Brisbane Families urged to ‘See Something, say something’ in the school holidays

Brisbane families are being encouraged to ‘See Something, Say Something’, as we get out and about over the school holidays with our five-day Local Legends community display.

30.06.2025 Local Legends

Running from Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July at Brisbane’s King George Square, the family-friendly activation is part of our successful Local Legends campaign – an initiative designed to encourage residents to report crime and suspicious activity anonymously.

With hands-on activities for kids, giveaways, and opportunities to engage with our staff and volunteers, the event will spotlight the power of public tip-offs and the role every Queenslander can play in keeping their community safe.

Crime Stoppers Queensland CEO David Hansen said the display was designed to reach even more families with an empowering message, ‘See something, say something’.

“School holidays are the perfect time to connect with families and help young people understand that everyone has a role to play in keeping their community safe,” Mr Hansen said.

“We want kids to grow up knowing that speaking up is a strength. By engaging them through fun and interactive activities, we’re helping to start those early conversations about looking out for each other, recognising when something’s not right, and knowing where to turn.

“The Local Legends display is a great opportunity for parents and carers to learn more about how anonymous reporting works, while kids enjoy games, giveaways, educational resources, and a chance to meet our team of real-life crime fighting legends.”

The King George Square pop up builds on the momentum of our Local Legends campaign, which launched last July and has already seen thousands of Brisbane residents reached through billboards and activations at major events like the Ekka, RACQ MotorFest, and the QPS Open Day.

Importantly, it helps us connect with a traditionally hard-to-reach group – young people and families.

The fun includes colouring, activity books and puzzles, as well as bouncy ball giveaways, stickers, and other Crime Stoppers Queensland merchandise.

Mr Hansen said every report to Crime Stoppers made a difference.

“Queenslanders need to step up and show that they won’t stand by and do nothing when they see something suspicious,” he said.

“The Local Legends campaign has been instrumental in helping us reach new audiences and grow public confidence in our service.

“When people know their identity is protected and their information could help prevent crime, they’re far more likely to come forward.

“Even the smallest piece of information can be the missing link in an investigation.

“If you see something, say something. They’ll never know it was you – and your tip could help prevent a crime before it happens.

“People who choose to speak up, share what they know, and help protect what matters most are true local legends. Our success relies on their bravery and vigilance.”
