Pine Rivers Volunteer Area Committee

Located approximately 22km north of Brisbane, Pine Rivers is the most southern division of the City of Moreton Bay Local Government Area.

The Pine Rivers Volunteer Area Committee, established in May 2006, is made up of 15 very active members who promote the Crime Stoppers message to the residents, businesses & institutions living and operating from McDowall in the south to Dayboro in the North, from Rothwell in the east to Mt Samson, Clear Mountain, Samsonvale and Bunya in the west. The area is diverse catering of residential, commercial, industrial and rural activities and is one of the fastest growing areas of South East Queensland.

Prior to European settlement, Pine Rivers was home to a number of Aboriginal clans belonging to the Turrbal, Kabi (Kabi Kabi or Gubbi Gubbi) and Waka (Wakka Wakka) language groups.

During World War II, Pine Rivers Shire provided a station for large numbers of troops (Australian and American) for varying lengths of time and there were three operational airstrips, the most significant of which was constructed in the area now occupied by Spitfire Avenue, Strathpine.

The Shire briefly resumed its rural character following the War however; the urban expansion which has taken place over the past three decades has seen this dramatically change to a dormitory suburban area for a workforce employed predominantly in Brisbane. In more recent times industrial area such as Brendale have provided local employment opportunities for many of the local residents.

The North Pine Dam, built to supply water to the City of Brisbane and the districts of Pine Rivers, Redcliffe and Caboolture is a major feature of the area.
